1950
The establishment of the first College of Sharia during the reign of the Founding King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud in Makkah al-Mukarramah. This college was the nucleus for Umm al-Qura University, established in 1981.
1953
The establishment of Imam Mohammad Bin Saud Islamic University in Riyadh, represented by the College of Sharia. It became a university in 1974.
1958
The establishment of King Saud University in Riyadh as a legal entity with its own budget.
1961
The establishment of the Islamic University in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah.
1963
The establishment of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran.
1967
