Taif University is a Saudi public university and one of the eight universities established during the reign of King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. It is headquartered in al-Hawiyah in Taif Governorate in Makkah al-Mukarramah Province.

Establishment of Taif University

The decision to establish Taif University was made on July 10, 2003. The university's beginnings date back to King Abdulaziz University, represented by the Faculty of Education, which started in 1980 with eighty-five male students and 180 female students. At the time, the faculty offered its students five different majors.

A year later, the Faculty of Education in Taif joined Umm al-Qura University. After seventeen years, a Royal Decree was issued to establish the Faculty of Science in Taif. In 1998, King Saud Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Palace was granted to the university to establish the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. On May 29, 2004, the university began offering its programs under the name of Taif University.

Taif University Faculties

Taif University has seventeen faculties, most of which are located in the main branch and three of which are located in its branches in various locations, Turbah branch, al-Khurma branch, and Ranyah branch. In 2020, the university accommodated 56,885 students.

In addition to its various faculties, the university includes the Arab Poetry Academy, an institution concerned with developing Arabic poetry, supporting poets and critics, and holding various poetry activities and events.

Taif University and RUR Global Rankings

Taif University entered the RUR World University Rankings in 2022, as it includes the top 4 percent of international universities, and the university was ranked fourth nationally.

The RUR ranking system is a global university ranking system that measures the performance of 1,100 leading universities from eighty-two countries, using twenty unique indicators across four key areas of university activity, e.g., teaching, scientific research, international diversity, and financial sustainability. This is the first time the university has entered this ranking since its inception.
