King Faisal University is a Saudi public university established by a Royal Decree in 1975 and inaugurated by King Khalid Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in 1976. It is one of two universities (with the other being Umm al-Qura University) established during his reign. Its headquarters is in Hofuf in al-Ahsa Governorate in the Eastern Province.

The university started with four colleges, two of which are located in Hofuf, including the College of Agricultural and Food Sciences and the College of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Resources, and two colleges in its branch in Dammam, including the College of Medicine and the College of Architecture and Planning.
