Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University is a comprehensive public university dedicated to the academic education of women in various fields. It was named after the sister of the Founding King of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud. It is the only university in the Kingdom that manages all administrative and service operations by female personnel. Located in the north of the capital, Riyadh, it is the largest women's university in the world.

Establishment of Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University

The Royal Decree to establish the first university for women in Riyadh was issued in 2006, by transforming several colleges into a university. On October 29, 2008, the university had the honor of having King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz lay the foundation for the university city to include the College of Education for Literary Departments, College of Education for Scientific Departments, Teachers' Preparation College, College of Social Services, Home Economics Education College, and the College of Arts, all under one umbrella named Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University. It is one of fourteen universities established during the reign of King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz.

Colleges of Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University

Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University consists of twenty colleges and institutes, in addition to the Deanship of Community Service and Continuing Education, which includes three departments: Administrative and Human Sciences, Applied Sciences, and Professional Diplomas. The colleges' fields vary between administrative, health, scientific, and humanitarian colleges and institutes, and it offers 125 academic programs.

The university accommodates 25,054 students, with faculty members of 2,151. The university spans an area of eight million m. Its facilities include six hundred smart buildings, 179 laboratories, twenty-three lecture halls, in addition to 714 classrooms.

Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University assists its members in accessing books quickly and easily through its central library. This library is equipped with the latest global technologies, including the robotic arm. This storage system preserves books at a specific temperature, can accommodate up to five million books, and enables the student to specify the name of the book for quick access.

Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University Metro

Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University has provided a metro train, an automated transportation system established by specialized global companies, from the very first day of the university's establishment. This system facilitates the movement of its students and staff between different colleges and buildings, especially given the vast area of the university.

The metro is supervised by a female team trained to perform various tasks, including driving, station supervision, railway maintenance, customer service, vehicle maintenance, guidance and training, first aid, CPR training, fire extinguishing, and correct handling of emergencies, e.g., rapid evacuation.

Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University is one of the first institutions to establish women's driving schools in the Kingdom, namely the Saudi Driving School (SDS) after issuing the Royal Decree allowing women to drive in the Kingdom. The school was able to train five thousand women in the first year.

Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University Global Ranking

Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University ranked first locally and regionally and twenty-seventh globally in the world classification Times Higher Education (THE) 2021 Impact Ranking in its third edition. Additionally, the university ranked first globally in the fifth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), gender equality. This is attributed to the university being the largest women's university in the world, focusing on qualifying and empowering women to participate in development and decision-making.

The university also obtained that ranking based on the best results achieved for (four) goals, which are gender equality, decent work, and economic growth, reducing inequality, and partnerships to achieve the goals.
