Jouf University (JU) is one of the public universities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and one of the eight universities founded during the reign of King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. It is headquartered in al-Jawf Province on the regional road leading east to Sakaka City and west to Dawmat al-Jandal Governorate. It is a standard university similar to Harvard and contains many scientific and administrative faculties and various university facilities.
Jouf University (JU) was founded on June 7, 2005. Its origins go back to King Saud University represented by the College of Sciences in al-Jawf, which remained a branch of King Saud University in 2003 until the establishment of JU.
Faculties of Jouf University
JU campus extends along the regional road leading east to Sakaka City and west to Dawmat al-Jandal Governorate. The total area of the campus site is about 7,200,000 m, most of which consists of faculty buildings, centers, deanships, and green spaces that are distinguished by their systematic shape. From above, the university resembles the number eight, as its design mirrors two pairs of opposing arches.
At first, the following four faculties were operational: Sciences, Engineering, Applied Medical Sciences, and Social Studies in Qurayyat. One year later, a Royal Order was issued to build the Faculty of Medicine, bringing the number to a total of five faculties.
Evolution of Jouf University
The university further expanded until it encompassed in 2020 five research centers, and sixteen different faculties specialized in science, health, administration, humanities, and social studies. Most of these faculties are located in the university's headquarters, while several others are distributed across the university branches in Tubarjal and Qurayyat.
According to the 2020 statistics, JU is home to about 26,973 male and female students, in addition to 977 faculty members.
Jouf University in international rankings
In 2023, JU made the international rankings by landing the 51-60th position in the QS Arab Region University Rankings for 2023, thus jumping thirty positions compared to the 2022 ranking. The university was also ranked among international universities according to the Times University Rankings 2023, positioning 800-601 globally.
