King Khalid University is a Saudi public university located in Abha, Aseer Province, southwestern of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was established in 1998 and includes the colleges of King Saud University and Imam Mohammad Bin Saud Islamic University in the region.
The university has approximately 54,291 students, including diploma, bachelor's, master's, and Ph.D. students, with 3,588 college members, equivalent to one professor for every fifteen students. This exceeds the global ideal average of one faculty member for every sixteen students, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The university publishes the online newspaper Afaq, which presents news about the university and education in the Kingdom, authored by writers and faculty members.

King Khalid University provides various research services and publishes nine scientific journals, including King Khalid University Journal of Sharia and Islamic Studies, King Khalid University Journal of Educational Sciences, King Khalid University Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences, King Khalid University Journal of Health Sciences, King Khalid University Journal of Humanities, Journal of Historical and Cultural Studies, Journal of Money and Business, King Khalid University Journal of Linguistic Studies, and Journal of Frontiers in Engineering and Built Environment.
On September 12, 2019, the university launched the 'Mubasher' system, aimed at enhancing the university's relationship with its students, employees, and faculty members and providing a platform for them to voice their concerns and opinions to the authorities.

King Khalid University has advanced two hundred places in the 2022 Shanghai Ranking of World Universities, ranking 640th globally. Shanghai Ranking annually publishes the results of the top thousand world universities using four criteria, which include the quality of education, the quality of faculty members, research output, and performance relative to the institution size. It aims to be among the top two hundred global universities by 2030.
