Jazan University is a Saudi public university and one of eight universities established during the reign of King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. A large site was designated for the university city, with an area of 9 million m on the Red Sea coast north of Jazan.
It is headquartered in Jazan Province, and consists of twenty-three faculties which are distributed in the governorates and centers of this province including, Baish, Farasan, al-Dayer, al-Aridhah, al-Darb, Samtah, Abu Arish, and Sabya. It was established according to Royal Decree No. (1396/M/B) issued on June 7, 2005. Its foundation stone was laid by King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on November 15, 2006.
Jazan University was inaugurated with five faculties, namely: The Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Computer, the Faculty of Information Systems, and the Faculty of Community, followed by the Faculty of Teachers and the Faculty of Education. Moreover, other faculties were then established until they reached twenty-three and were specialized in health, applied sciences, university and educational faculties, in addition to fourteen institutes, centers and units.
The university includes 45,554 enrolled male and female students, as well as 11,250 new male and female students. Moreover, 11,423 male and female students graduated from the university, while the number of faculty members reached 2,983, according to the statistics of the 2021-2022 academic year.

Jazan University launched the Award for Excellence, which targets all university affiliates, including students, faculty members, and employees, in addition to all the university entities, namely: faculties, departments, units and administrations, in order to motivate them to grow, excel and innovate.

The logo of Jazan University consists of three colors: blue, green, and yellow. The colors depict the waves and sails symbolizing the Red Sea and the beach on which the university is located. The name of the university is also engraved in both Arabic and English, in addition to the year of its establishment in the Hijri and Gregorian calendars.
Jazan University in international rankings
In 2023, Jazan University reached international rankings by taking seventh place among Saudi universities, and was ranked 401st globally in the Times World University Rankings for the year 2023. In the Arab world, the university ranked ninety-first among Arab universities in the QS World University Rankings, and was ranked twelfth among Saudi universities as per the Scimago classification. Moreover, it was recorded as the forty-fourth university in the Arab world, and eighty-eighth in Middle Eastern countries
