List of Titles of King Abdulaziz

Several titles were bestowed upon King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, the Founding King from the recapture of Riyadh in 1902, until the proclamation of the unification of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1932. They began with the title “Imam”, an inherited title from his fathers and grandfathers, up to “King”. These titles changed as King Abdulaziz expanded in recapturing the lands that had been subject to the First and Second Saudi States, namely:                    

Prince of Najd and Chief of its Tribes

King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud was given the title “Prince of Najd and Chief of its Tribes” in 1902, when the Saudi state was at the beginning of its political formation, after King Abdulaziz regained some parts of Najd following the capture of Riyadh. King Abdulaziz used this title in his official correspondence, including his letters with Sharif Hussein Bin Ali, the ruler of the Hejaz.

Sultan of Najd

  King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud held the title “Sultan of Najd” in 1921, during the Riyadh Conference in the presence of the country’s scholars.

Sultan of Najd and its Dependencies

King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud held the title “Sultan of Najd and its Dependencies” in 1922, in the aftermath of regaining the regions of Al-Ahsa and Aseer, and the start of the campaign to regain the Hejaz.

King of the Hejaz and Sultan of Najd and its Dependencies

King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud was given the title “King of the Hejaz and Sultan of Najd and its Dependencies” in 1926, after regaining the Hejaz and after its people pledged allegiance to him as their king.

King of the Hejaz, Najd and its Dependencies

King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud was titled “King of the Hejaz, Najd and its Dependencies” in 1927, after he was proclaimed king over Najd following its people’s pledge of allegiance to him as their king.

King of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud was named “King of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia” in 1932, after the issuance of the Royal Decree proclaiming the unification of the country and naming it the “Kingdom of Saudi Arabia”.
