His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (born in 1960) has been the Minister of Energy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since September 8, 2019. He is the first prince to hold this ministry since its establishment.

His education

Prince Abdulaziz is the fourth son of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. He pursued his higher education at universities in Saudi Arabia, graduating from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Management in 1982. He obtained a Master's degree in Business Administration from the same university in 1985. He then served as the Director of Economic and Industrial Studies at the Research Institute of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals from 1985 to 1987.

His positions

In 1987, Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman was appointed an advisor to the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and served in that role for three consecutive years. In 1990, he was appointed Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (now the Ministry of Energy) for five years. Between 1995 and 2004, he served as Undersecretary at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. Afterward, he was named as Assistant Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources until 2015, when he was made Deputy Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. In 2017, he was appointed as State Minister for Energy Affairs at the Ministry of Energy, until he finally became Minister of Energy in 2019.

His role in the Ministry of Energy

He was appointed as Minister of Energy in September 2019. Prince Abdulaziz assumes the responsibility of coordinating the domestic and international energy policies of the Kingdom, in line with Saudi Vision 2030. This includes supervising energy activities within the Kingdom, regulating the sectors of petroleum, gas, electricity, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and clean hydrogen, all in the interest of the Kingdom. Additionally, he manages the Kingdom's international policies related to its relations with petroleum-producing countries (through OPEC and the OPEC agreement) as well as with consuming countries. Prince Abdulaziz has played an active role in shaping energy policies at both the local and international levels for over thirty years and also chairs several energy-related organizations.

His Memberships

Prince Abdulaziz has spent nearly thirty years in the energy sector. He has been a permanent member of the Saudi Arabian delegation to OPEC since joining the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources in 1987. Additionally, he has chaired several international associations and institutes, holding membership in others.
