The Saudi Paralympic Sports are competitive sports events in which athletes with disabilities participate to showcase their abilities to millions of viewers.
Beginnings of Saudi Paralympic Sports
Paralympics commenced in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1997, when the then-General President for Youth Welfare, Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Bin Abdulaziz, issued a decree to establish twelve training centers for people with special needs across various provinces and governorates of the Kingdom. Subsequently, three additional centers were added, bringing the total to fifteen centers distributed throughout the Kingdom. More recently, the Saudi Paralympic Committee was officially established to oversee all sports activities for individuals with disabilities nationwide.

The Saudi Paralympic Committee aims to incorporate sports into the daily lives of individuals with disabilities, encouraging them to achieve recognition on global and Paralympic levels, in addition to qualifying them to practice sports activities and raising community awareness of the importance of sports for people with disabilities and its efficiency in the development of society.
Saudi Paralympic Committee objectives
1- Provide support for the sports of persons with disabilities and participate in tournaments, competitions, meetings, and training courses at all levels under the rules and regulations of the International Paralympic Committee and international federations.
2- Oversee the preparation of national teams participating in Paralympic, global, continental, and regional competitions, and select representatives from the Saudi Paralympic Committee for these activities in accordance with the rules and regulations of the International Paralympic Committee.
3- Promote the fundamental principles of sportsmanship at both the local and international levels within the framework of sporting activities, and developing sports programs across all levels of domestic and global competition.
Paralympic athletes training centers
The Kingdom boasts several centers to train athletes with disabilities. These centers are spread over Riyadh, Makkah al-Mukarramah, Jeddah, Aseer, Hail, al-Jawf, Najran, ar-Rass, Taif, Qassim, Jazan, al-Ahsa, Eastern Province, al-Bahah, and Tabuk.
