King Saud Bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences is a government university specializing in health sciences. A Royal Decree was issued to establish it in 2005, and it is accredited by the Ministry of Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its various programs at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The main headquarters of King Saud Bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences is in Riyadh, the capital, and it has two branches in: Jeddah Governorate in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, and Al-Ahsa Governorate in the Eastern Province. The university comprises seven colleges at the Riyadh branch, four colleges at the Jeddah branch, and three colleges at the Al-Ahsa branch. The university also includes the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies, the Deanship of Admissions and Registration, the Deanship of Student Affairs, the King Abdullah International Medical Research Center, the Postgraduate Training Center, and the Center for Promoting Mental Health.

The university offers thirty-nine academic health programs to 14,533 male and female students, supported by 1,063 faculty members, according to the latest statistics published on the university’s website for 2021–2022.

King Saud Bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences is linked to training programs at King Abdulaziz Medical City of the Ministry of the National Guard. It has shown an interest in research and development, and launched programs that reinforce its values, such as: the Adaa programs, which is for entering, collecting, and analyzing data electronically; the Ajwad programs, which aims to develop performance by collecting opinions and questionnaires; the Tawwir programs, which aims to gather creative ideas to develop the university environment; and the Aysar programs for completing forms related to academic accreditation electronically, and the university also distributes annual awards based on precise criteria and certain conditions in line with quality and excellence requirements.

The university adopts modern learning methods centered around the student and based on problem-solving skills, "Problem Based Learning - PBL", which is considered one of the modern methods used in medical colleges.

King Saud Bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences launched Nabd Al-Jami’ah (University Pulse) magazine, which focuses on topics related to the nation, health, literature, art, and technology, to serve as a media center for the university.

Health Innovation Hackathon

On March 3, 2022, King Saud Bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences hosted the Health Innovation Hackathon and the accompanying innovation exhibition, under the slogan "Unlimited potential towards achieving Saudi’s Vision 2030", with the participation of a number of entities and bodies, for four days, with the aim of enhancing a culture of innovation in society and harnessing students’ health-tech skills by presenting various innovative solutions and projects in the field of healthcare. The hackathon included a number of specialized scientific tracks such as: technology in health education and training, biotechnology, health services and care, a healthy lifestyle, as well as risk and crisis management in the health field.

King Saud Bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences in international rankings

In 2019, King Saud Bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences ranked second as the best young university in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and among the best 150 young universities in the world, according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Two years later, the university achieved 7th locally and 51st in the Arab world, and within the 801st globally, according to the British Times Higher Education 2021 ranking for higher education globally, in the Arab world, and locally.
