Snow season in Tabuk, in the northwest of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, usually begins in January each year. Snow falls on some of the province's high wilderness areas and mountains, with temperatures plummeting to zero degrees Celsius. The winter in the Kingdom begins around mid-December and ends by mid-March.
Known as the North Gateway, Tabuk Province is located in the northwest of the Kingdom between the Hasma mountain to the west and the Sharorah mountain to the east. The region includes mountains that go as high as 2,600 m, such as Jabal al-Lawz. On the other hand, Tabuk City lies between six hundred m and eight hundred m above sea level.
Snow falls on the highlands of Tabuk Province almost every year. It snows heavily on the peaks of Jabal al-Lawz, Jabal al-Dhahr, and Jabal Alaqan, which are all mountains located in Haql Governorate. Visitors come to the province in the winter to gaze upon the stars, such as Orion's Belt and the Winter Hexagon, which shines bright above the Kingdom at that time of the year.

Jabal al-Lawz was named after the almond trees that grow on its lands. Some of its peaks reach a height of 2,549 m. Jabal al-Lawz is an important tourist destination in the Kingdom. Its snowy surfaces and granite plateaus attract visitors in the winter. Moreover, it houses archeological and historic sites, such as rock drawings dating back ten thousand years.
Snow season events in Tabuk
In the winter, the mountainous highlands of Tabuk Province encourage locals and visitors to engage in many seasonal activities and events, such as skiing, especially in the northwest of the region, as well as the so-called "Kashta," or camping in deserts or snow-clad mountains.
Winter events in the region during the snow season include snow walking, mountaineering, riding camels and drinking their warm milk, driving SUVs on snow-covered sand, and stargazing.
