Hassan Hijab Al-Hazmi

Hassan Hijab Al-Hazmi (born in 1965) has been a member of the Shura Council in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since October 20, 2020. He has participated in scientific conferences and seminars at the local, Arab, and international levels, and has attended literary evenings locally and across the Arab world.

Hassan Hijab Al-Hazmi was born in Damad Governorate in Jazan Province, southwest of Saudi Arabia. He earned a bachelor's degree in Arabic language from Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University (IMSIU) in 1988, followed by a master's degree in literary criticism from the same university in 1998, and a Ph.D. in 2004.

Hassan Hijab Al-Hazmi headed Jazan Literary Club from 2006 to 2007. He was also Dean of the Teachers' College in Jazan from 2004 to 2008, then served as Dean of Student Affairs at Jazan University from 2008 to 2011. He later held the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs at Jazan University from 2011 to 2013, and then Vice President of Jazan University from 2013 to 2016. Al-Hazmi has been a member of the Board of Directors of the King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah) since 2012. He has held memberships in the Saudi Scientific Society for Arabic Literature and the Saudi Society for Arabic Language.

Hassan Hijab Al-Hazmi has published several works, including Dhakirat Al-Daqa'iq Al-Akhira (Last Minutes Memories—short stories), first edition in 1993 and second edition in 2011; Wardah fi Fam Al-Huzn (A Rose in the Mouth of Sorrow—poetry), first edition in 1996 and second edition in 2011; and Al-Batal fi Al-Riwayah Al-Su'udiyyah (The Hero in the Saudi Novel—critical study), first edition in 2002, second edition in 2008, and third edition in 2016. He also published Al-Bina' Al-Fanni fi Al-Riwayah Al-Su'udiyyah (The Artistic Structure in the Saudi Novel–critical study), first edition in 2005 and second edition in 2016; Al-A'mal Al-Qasasiyyah wa Ma Kutiba Aanha (Fictional Works and Selected Critical Studies) in 2016; Ra'id Al-Qissah fi Al-Janub (The Pioneer of the Short Story Writing in the South–critical study) in 2016; Al-Hirak Al-Naqdi Hawla Al-Riwayah Al-Su'udiyyah (Critical Studies on the Saudi Novel) in 2017; and Al-Qissah Al-Qasirah fi Al-Mamlakah Al-Arabiyyah Al-Saudiyyah (The Short Story in the Kingdom) in 2019.

Hassan Hijab Al-Hazmi has received several awards, including the Jazan Award for Excellence and Creativity (Cultural Personality Category) in 2019, the Ministry of Culture and Media Book Award (formerly) in the Critical Studies category in 2018, the Prince Mohammed Bin Nasser Award of Excellence (Academic Outstanding Performance) in 2008, first place in Abha Cultural Competition (Short Story Category) in 1993, and first place in Jazan Literary Club Competition (Poetry Category) in 1992. He also won second place in Abha Cultural Competition (Poetry Category) in 1988.
