
Ali Mohammed Al-Hazmi (born 1970) is a Saudi writer and poet. He worked as a teacher and has published poems in Saudi and Arab newspapers. He has released several poetry collections and Diwans, some of which have been translated into English. He has received several Arab and international awards.
Early life and education of Ali Al-Hazmi
Ali Al-Hazmi was born in Damad Governorate in Jazan Province, southwest of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He completed his primary education there before enrolling in the Scientific Institute in Damad, which was affiliated with Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University (IMSIU), where he studied both middle and high school. He later joined Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, where he pursued a bachelor's degree in Arabic language, graduating in 1992.
Professional and cultural life of Ali Al-Hazmi
Ali Al-Hazmi was appointed as a teacher in Baish Governorate right after obtaining his bachelor's degree. He then moved to one of the schools in Damad Governorate. In early 1989, he began publishing his poems in Saudi and Arab magazines, newspapers, and specialized cultural periodicals. He also contributed to the revival of several poetic evenings and cultural gatherings in Saudi Arabia and the Arab world. He participated in a poetry evening at Al-Afeef Cultural Foundation in the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, in 2003, took part in the Arab Poets Festival held in Yemen in 2004, and held a poetry evening at the House of Culture in Sana'a in 2005.
Publications of Ali Al-Hazmi
Ali Al-Hazmi issued four diwans: his first, Bawwabah Lil-Jasad (A Gateway to the Body) in 1993, which contains seventeen poems; then Khosran (Loss) in 2000; followed by 'Al-Ghazalah Tashrab Soorataha' (The Gazelle Drinks Its Image) in 2004; and finally Mutma'inan Ala Al-Haffah (Comfortable on the Edge) in 2009, which was translated into Spanish and published by the University of Costa Rica in collaboration with the Costa Rican House of Poetry in 2013. Some of his poems were translated into English, and Arab critics have written about his poetic experience.
Awards of Ali Al-Hazmi
Ali Al-Hazmi won the Medal of Poetry at the Uruguay Poetry Festival in 2015. He also won the World Grand Prize for Poetry at the International Poetry Nights Festival in Romania in 2017. He also received the Best International Poet Award 2018 from the International Poetry and Translation Research Center (IPTRC) in China. His poem 'A Road Through the Walls' won the International Verbumlandi Poetry Prize for Galateo City, Italy. Al-Hazmi has participated in over fifteen global poetry anthologies published in various languages, including those from Colombia, Spain, the Dominican Republic, Germany, China, Uruguay, Turkey, Romania, and Cuba.
