Baish Governorate is one of the governorates in the Jazan Province, southwestern Saudi Arabia. It was formerly called Umm al-Khashab Village due to the abundance of trees from which wood is extracted. Its population is 86,996, according to the official statistics of the Saudi Census 2022.
Baish Governorate is located northwest of the Jazan Province along the Red Sea coast. It is situated sixty-eight km north of Jazan, the capital of the Emirate of Jazan. It is bordered by al-Darb Governorate to the north, Sabya Governorate to the south, and Huraymila and al-Rayth Governorates to the east, with the Red Sea forming its western boundary.
Baish is a coastal governorate connected by land to the main cities on the western coastal line of the Kingdom through Highway 5, which serves as the main transportation route for access and travel to and from Baish.
Baish Valley Dam
One of the key features of the governorate is the Baish Valley Dam, which was constructed in 2009. It is a concrete dam with a storage capacity of 193.6 million cu m. It stands at a height of 106 m with a length of 340 m at the crest and has four water release gates capable of discharging around thirty-four million cu m daily. Water treatment plants were established on the dam to supply Aseer and Jazan with drinking water, with a production capacity of up to 220,000 cu m per day.
Tourist attractions in Baish
The Northern Beach of Baish Governorate, which stretches for 1.7 km, is one of the most important landmarks of the governorate. It is characterized by golden-colored sand dunes, making it a tourist attraction for picnickers and visitors to the governorate.
Located forty km northeast of Baish Governorate is Wadi al-Fatiha, known for its greenery and flowing water throughout the year. Additionally, there is the al-Fatiha Tourist Park, with a total area of 16,429 m.
