
Nadhmi Al-Nasr is a Saudi engineer who previously served as the chief executive officer (CEO) of NEOM, the acting president of the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC), and the director of the planning department at Saudi Aramco. He has also held leadership and administrative positions across various sectors.
Life of Nadhmi Al-Nasr
Nadhmi Al-Nasr was raised in his paternal grandfather’s home among his paternal and maternal uncles. After his father moved to his own house in Saihat, located in the Eastern Province, he enrolled in elementary school. His interest in school radio led him to take on its management alongside his classmates. Since middle and high school were not available in Saihat City at the time, he moved to Dammam City to continue his studies. This transition marked a significant shift in his environmental, social, and cultural experience. His university path was chosen with a clear goal in mind - joining Saudi Aramco, building a career, and achieving success within the company.

Nadhmi Al-Nasr earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran in 1978.
Professional career of Nadhmi Al-Nasr
In 1978, Nadhmi Al-Nasr joined the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) and spent approximately three years working in engineering services. In 1981, he became part of the team assigned to implement Saudi Arabia's Master Gas System, a program designed to supply petrochemical industries in the industrial cities of al-Jubail and Yanbu. In 1986, he was promoted to project manager, taking responsibility for all major programs of the Ghawar Oil Field.
In 1991, Nadhmi Al-Nasr began managing the program to increase crude oil production at the Ghawar Oil Field, which contributed to ensuring Saudi Arabia's ability to compensate for the production shortfall caused by the cessation of oil production from Iraq and Kuwait during the Gulf War. In 1995, he was appointed as the director of the Shaybah Oil Field development program. Then, in 1998, he transitioned to Saudi Aramco’s general planning department, where he served as the director of long-term planning, overseeing the development of the company’s strategies and business plans.
In 2003, he was appointed as the Managing Director of Saudi Petroleum Overseas Ltd. (SPOL), a subsidiary of Saudi Aramco. In 2004, he assumed the position of Executive Director of Residential Community Services, and in 2006, he was appointed Vice President of Engineering Services. He also collaborated with international engineering and consulting firms in the United States, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Japan. Additionally, he worked in several oil fields, including Ghawar, Shaybah, and as-Saffaniyah. In 2006, he was appointed as the acting president of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). In 2008, he was named Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs at KAUST and served as Chairman of the Advisory Board for the university's Saudi Gifted Students Program. In 2017, he was elected as the acting president of KAPSARC. In 2018, he was appointed CEO of NEOM, a position he held until 2024.

Nadhmi Al-Nasr held several memberships, including the Advisory Board of the Supreme Economic Council in Saudi Arabia, the Board of Trustees of the King Abdulaziz Center for National Dialogue, the Investment Committee Board at KAUST, the Academic Leadership Selection Committee at KAUST, and the Education Evaluation Council at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
In 2021, he received the Moderation Award in its fifth edition, granted by the Prince Khalid al-Faisal Institute for Moderation.
