The Saudi Climbing Academy is an academy specialized in teaching and training rock climbing and long-distance hiking practitioners in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is supervised by the Saudi Climbing and Hiking Federation (SCHF) and is headquartered in Jeddah City. The academy organizes training programs and tournaments for various age groups, aiming to discover potential talents to represent Saudi Arabia in climbing and long-distance hiking.

Work of the Saudi Climbing Academy

The Saudi Climbing Academy offers several programs and competitions that serve as performance trials, each targeting a specific age group. The aim is to discover participants’ abilities and find talents that can be invested in climbing and long-distance hiking. The academy allocates development programs for those who qualify in the competitions it holds to reach a high level of training by international coaches in order to meet global competition standards and enable participants to achieve athletic growth.

Academies of SCHF

The Saudi Climbing Academy is one of the programs supervised by SCHF, the official entity responsible for developing and promoting rock climbing and long-distance hiking. The federation also oversees sustainable climbing activities and announces via its official electronic platform the rock climbing sites and routes across Saudi Arabia. In addition, it provides electronic services such as memberships, licenses, and schedules for events and courses.

The federation organizes temporary academies in some cities of Saudi Arabia, including a summer academy in Tanumah City, located in the highlands of al-Sarat Mountains in southwestern Saudi Arabia. It was designated for participants aged fifteen through nineteen, launched on July 23, 2019, and continued for four days. Part of the summer academy’s activities involved teaching participants the basics of rock climbing, self-reliance, living in harmony with the environment, and reinforcing national pride by respecting and caring for the environment. Among the other goals of founding the academy is to increase the number of people practicing the sport, and achieve wider reach among youth.

SCHF also held a youth academy at al-Wahba Crater, about two hundred km northeast of Taif Governorate, with around fifteen young participants. The program targeted the fourteen- to nineteen-year-old age group and lasted two days, focusing on teaching participants the basics of long-distance hiking. The journey also included a training course titled “Leave No Impact,” which promotes preserving the environment, supporting its development, and rejecting harmful practices that damage it.
