King Fahd Sport City, supervised by the Ministry of Sport, is a multipurpose sport facility in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that hosts matches and sporting events.
Establishment of King Fahd Sport City
The City was inaugurated during the reign of King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in 1985. It is located in Al Hawiyah, Taif Governorate. The city, which can be reached by Al-Sail road, is roughly 88 km away from King Abdulaziz Sport City.
Area of King Fahd Sport City
King Fahd Sport City occupies an area of about 200,000 m², with a total of 20,500 seats. Its stadium is made of natural grass, and includes a running track, as well as outdoor seats.
Facilities of King Fahd Sport City
King Fahd Sport City consists of several facilities and installations, including the main stadium, indoor sports hall, youth center along with its facilities, theater and lecture hall, administration building, indoor swimming hall and its facilities, VIP residential units, mosque, subsidiary stadium, bowling alley, tennis courts, in addition to parks and outdoor squares.
The sport stadium is usually used for football matches, which are often held in the evening. It may also host official ceremonies, among other events, and is known among audiences by several titles, including Al-Hawiyah Stadium.
The first football match between the Saudi national team and Jordanian national team were hosted by the stadium during the fourth Arab Championship in 1985. The Saudi team came out victorious, and the player Saleh Al-Nuaimah scored the first goal in the stadium's history.
The King Salman Cup for Arab Clubs was held at King Fahd Sport City Stadium in Taif, as part of the Arab Federation competitions for the 2023 season in Taif, Abha, and Al-Bahah.
