Al-Thumairi Street is considered the oldest street in Riyadh City. Its name, "al-Thumairi," originates from the eastern gate that served as a main entrance for travelers and caravans of pilgrims, traders, and goods of various kinds arriving from that direction.

Al-Thumairi Street witnessed the first signs of social and economic development in Riyadh City, as it became lined with shops offering a variety of merchandise, including clothing, accessories, watches, and imported footwear. The earliest documented photograph of the street dates back to 1914.

Even today, al-Thumairi Street remains a vibrant commercial hub, housing numerous markets that attract visitors. It is also home to Imam Turki Bin Abdullah Mosque, known locally as the "Great Mosque."
