What Are the Responsibilities of the Saudi Health Council?

The Saudi Health Council is the body responsible for establishing coordination and integration policies among healthcare service providers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The council was established in 2002, and it undertakes several fundamental roles and responsibilities, including:

- Developing and implementing healthcare strategies in Saudi Arabia.

- Establishing standardized criteria for managing and operating hospitals and health centers run by the Ministry of Health or any other government entity.

- Reviewing and evaluating health services, plans, and policies.

- Coordinating between health service providers to facilitate beneficiaries' access to these services.

- Reviewing the healthcare laws in Saudi Arabia and proposing ways to improve them.

- Issuing the necessary regulatory, administrative, and financial regulations to manage the council’s operations, in coordination with the Ministry of Finance, and approving the organizational structure of the council’s secretariat in coordination with the Secretariat of the Supreme Committee for Administrative Organization.

- Forming specialized committees that support the council in fulfilling its responsibilities, defining their mandates, and establishing rules governing their operations, as well as the rights and duties of their members.
