Timeline for the Privatization of Saudi Clubs
The Ministry of Sport, in cooperation with the National Centre for Privatization, completed the privatization of twenty-seven Saudi clubs through a number of phases as follows:
The First phase 2023
The Public Investment Fund’s investment in four Saudi clubs, by converting them into companies owned by the Fund, namely: Al-Ittihad Company, Al-Ahli Company, Al-Nassr Company, and Al-Hilal Company. Four clubs were also converted into companies, and ownership of these companies was transferred to development entities, namely: converting Al-Qadisiyah Club into a company under Saudi Aramco, converting Al-Diriyah Club to the Diriyah Gate Development Authority, converting AlUla Club to the Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate, and converting Al-Suqoor Club to NEOM Company.
The second phase 2024
During this phase, fourteen clubs were offered for privatisation to local and international investors. These clubs are: Al-Zulfi Club, Al-Nahda Club, Al-Okhdood Club, Al-Ansar Club, Al-Orobah Club, Al-Kholood Club, Al-Taraji Club, Al-Sahel Club, Al-Rawdah Club, Hajer Club, Al-Shoulla Club, Jeddah Club, Al-Riyadh Club, and Al-Najmah Club.
The third phase 2026
The Ministry of Sport and the National Centre for Privatisation announce the launch of the privatisation offering of the clubs (Abha, Al-Fateh, Al-Riyadh, Al-Tai, Al-Shoullah) for privatisation, as part of the sports clubs privatisation project.
