List of Objectives of the Saudi Building Code
The Building Code is defined as a set of conditions and requirements, along with accompanying laws and implementing regulations, applied to construction and building works to ensure safety and public health. The Saudi Building Code is considered one of the prominent national tools for enhancing building safety and aims to achieve the following objectives:
- Develop the content of the Saudi Building Code to improve the efficiency, safety, durability, and sustainability of buildings.
- Extend the lifespan of buildings through the application of the rules, conditions, and requirements of the Saudi Building Code and the use of Saudi standards.
- Rationalize energy consumption of all types and reduce the operating and maintenance costs of buildings.
- Increase buildings’ resistance to natural disasters.
- Propose laws and implementing regulations that obligate public and private entities to apply the requirements of the code and the principles and standards for designing earthquake-resistant buildings and structures in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and monitor their implementation.
