King Abdulaziz International Competition for the Memorization of the Holy Quran
King Abdulaziz International Competition for the Memorization of the Holy Quran is a global religious competition organized by the General Secretariat of the Holy Quran Competition under the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Contestants from all over the world participate, and the prizes amount to about SAR4 million. The competition is held in the Grand Mosque in Makkah Al-Mukarramah.
History
King Abdulaziz International Competition for the Memorization of the Holy Quran was launched in1979, and since its inception it had been exclusively for men, until the approval of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was issued in 2026 to add a women’s division to the competition.
Objectives
The King Abdulaziz International Competition for the Memorization of the Holy Quran aims to encourage Muslim youth around the world to compete in memorizing and reciting the Holy Quran, motivate them to hasten toward memorizing the Quran in full, strengthen the connection of younger generations of Muslims with the Holy Quran, and fulfill Saudi Arabia’s commitment to caring for and teaching the Holy Quran.
Categories
The King Abdulaziz International Competition for the Memorization of the Holy Quran consists of five categories:
First: Memorization of the entire Holy Quran with proper performance and Tajweed, according to the seven widely transmitted Qira’at.
Second: Memorization of the entire Holy Quran with good performance and Tajweed, along with explaining the meanings of all Quranic vocabulary.
Third: Memorization of the entire Holy Quran with good performance and Tajweed.
Fourth: Memorization of fifteen consecutive Juz’ (parts) with good performance and Tajweed.
Fifth: Memorization of five consecutive Juz’ (parts) with good performance and Tajweed.
