His Excellency Salman Bin Yousef al-Dosari (born in 1968) has been the Minister of Media in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since March 5, 2023.

Academic and career life

He was born in al-Khubar, Eastern Province, and obtained a bachelor's degree in management and economics. He held several positions throughout his professional journey, which began in 1998 at the Saudi Research and Marketing Group (currently known as the Saudi Research and Media Group). He initially worked with Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper, and then in 2004, he became a correspondent for Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper in Bahrain. Later, he became responsible for editing in the United Arab Emirates in 2006

In December 2009, he was appointed as an assistant to the editor-in-chief of Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper at its headquarters in London, before being appointed in October 2011 as the editor-in-chief of Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper. Then, he became the editor-in-chief of Al-Sharq Al-Awsat starting from July 1, 2014.

He served as the editor-in-chief of al-Rajol magazine in 2011, which is published monthly in Arabic. In 2014, he was appointed as the editor-in-chief of al-Majalla magazine, a political magazine published monthly from London in both Arabic and English. Its first issue was published in 1980.

Journalistic contributions

He worked throughout his professional career covering various local, regional, and international events, and wrote numerous articles in his column for the newspapers he worked for. After returning in 2016 from London to Riyadh, concluding his tenure as the editor-in-chief of Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper, he continued to write journalistic articles. In 2021, he became a member of the editorial board of the "Al Hadath" and "Al Arabiya" channels, contributing to their editorial identity and overall policy development. On April 6, 2021, Salman al-Dosari was awarded the Order of King Abdulaziz (Second Class) from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdulaziz.

Contributions to the Ministry of Media

In its efforts to develop the media sector, the Ministry of Media has launched several initiatives, programs, and projects, including:

- The Media Oasis Initiative: Launched concurrently with Saudi Arabia hosting the Jeddah Summit in May 2023, aiming to redefine the concept of media coverage. It was accompanied by the establishment of a creative exhibition showcasing the projects of Saudi Vision 2030, highlighting the historical transformation underway in Saudi Arabia.

- Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) Technology: It's a method for broadcasting radio digitally, delivering high-quality audio content. It increases the number of broadcasts per transmitter to sixteen channels instead of one, ensuring no signal interference.

- The Radio and Television Authority Training Academy: Launched to contribute to the development of human capabilities and the qualification of professionals in various media fields, including radio and television production, theater, cinema, and journalism.

- "Saudi Alaan" Channel: Launched in conjunction with the ninety-third Saudi National Day, to serve as the official platform for broadcasting official events, activities, and entertainment in Saudi Arabia.

- Communication Academy: A media project aimed at developing the advertising sector in the Kingdom, empowering talented individuals to enhance their skills in the field of digital advertising.

- General Authority for Media Regulation Strategy: Launched on December 18, 2023, to enhance the efficiency of national human resources, elevate the media sector, and support its regional and international progress.
