Magna is one of the archaeological settlements of the Tabuk Province in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; it was part of the coast of Midian on the Gulf of Aqaba. It was a populated oasis, known in the early Islamic era, after its people pledged to Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him (PBUH), a quarter of the city’s production of natural resources and agricultural crops.
Geographical location of Magna
Today, Magna is an administrative center located within the geographical range of the governorate of Haql in the Tabuk province, northwest of the Kingdom, on the coastline overlooking the Gulf of Aqaba.
Tourism in Magna
Magna is rated as one of the most notable tourist sites in the Tabuk Region, adequate for maritime hiking activities. Bays map out their maritime borders and oversee a varied marine environment while beaches are covered with sandy formations of graded colors.
Magna is a landmark of both natural features and historical value; abundant palm trees and waterways are the prominent natural features of the site. It has natural springs at the top of the hills dispersed on the site; water flows between palm and dom trees before pouring into the Gulf of Aqaba.
Magna ruins
Most of the antiquities that document the site of Magna are concentrated in the eastern part. It is a set of antiquities located on a highland overlooking the Gulf of Aqaba. It includes an ancient water spring known as Ain Magna, in addition to ancient ruins in the mountain caves surrounding the oasis.
The site still maintains its historical production of natural resources; it provides gypsum and anhydrite (anhydrous calcium sulfate) used in a number of industries in commercial quantities. The volume of reserves at the site is estimated at 33.6 million t.
