


Several lyric poets have emerged in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Here is a list of five of them:
Abdullah al-Faisal
Prince Abdullah al-Faisal was a poet known for his romantic poetry and introspective themes. Most of his poems were written in classical Arabic, featuring a lyrical quality and rich poetic language. His works were performed by renowned Arab artists, most notably Umm Kulthum and Abdel Halim Hafez.
Ibrahim Khafaji
Ibrahim Khafaji was one of the pioneers of the artistic movement in Saudi Arabia. His lyrical poems formed a significant part of the Saudi musical heritage. He wrote the lyrics of the Saudi national anthem.
Badr Bin Abdulmohsen
A select group of Arab artists, including Talal Maddah, Mohammed Abdu, and Abadi al-Johar, have performed songs featuring the poetry of Prince Badr Bin Abdulmohsen. He also wrote musical plays and long poetic narratives for the National Festival for Heritage and Culture 'Janadriyah,' such as the operettas Faris al-Tawhid (The Knight of Unification) and A’immah wa Muluk (Imams and Kings).
Hassan Moustafa al-Sairafi
A poet from al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, he composed lyrical poetry characterized by sincere emotion and an accessible style. In addition to his knowledge of melodies, Maqamat (musical modes), and Kasrat (a form of traditional poetry), some of his lyrical poems were performed by artists in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah.
Mohammed al-Fahd al-Essa
Mohammed al-Essa was a sentimental poet influenced by romanticism in poetry. He was a prominent figure in the modern poetry movement in Saudi Arabia and wrote several free-verse poems.
