The founding of Al Watan newspaper in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia underwent several stages. On May 8, 1998, King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the then Crown Prince, laid its cornerstone in Abha City, in Aseer Province, during its visit to the province. The establishment and press building was inaugurated by Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on July 7, 2000. Its first issue was published on September 30, 2000.
The newspaper is one of Saudi Arabia's local newspapers. It is issued daily from Abha City, by Aseer Press and Publishing Establishment.
