
Al-Kirsu Area is part of al-Rub' al-Khali(Empty Quarter) Desert, located southeast of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is known for its ancient water resources and is considered one of the grazing areas within al-Rub' al-Khali.
Location of al-Kirsu Area
Al-Kirsu is surrounded by various sandy regions, each with distinct names. To the north lie al-Mihrad and al-Mahakik, to the south are Khillat al-Ajma' and al-Bouh, to the east lies al-Hibak, and to the west is al-Munjar. The elevation of the sandy plateaus in al-Kirsu ranges between 130 and 180 m above sea level, with Khillat al-Ajma' defining its southernmost point.
Nature of al-Kirsu Area
Al-Kirsu Area is abundant with Ribad, which are sands that are difficult to traverse, and al-Khubb, low-lying spots nestled between sand dunes. The western part of al-Kirsu features rugged, white sand dunes, which are less steep in the eastern part. The area also includes several notable sandy landmarks, such as Haz Abu Suraifah, al-Marrash, Batra, Umm Abla, Qaadah, and Abu Ratham.
Water resources in al-Kirsu Area
Al-Kirsu is home to several ancient water sources, including Qulumat Umm Qurun, located on the eastern side near al-Hibak, and Qulumat Tawil al-Khitam, situated on the western side of the area between al-Kirsu and al-Bouh. In addition, the area features natural wells such as Abu Khuraeq, al-Abd, al-Hanaker, and Abu Khashbah. The surface is adorned with diverse plants, including Ephedra sinica, stipagrostis, cornulaca, Tribulus arabicus, Tetraena, and Melaleuca, making it an ideal grazing ground within al-Rub' al-Khali.
