The Arabic Language Month Program is a scientific program dedicated to teaching the Arabic language. It comprises a series of linguistic activities aimed at developing Arabic language curricula, improving the performance of its teachers, strengthening its presence, and highlighting the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in promoting and teaching the Arabic language. It is part of the project, “Arabic Language Teaching Scientific Programs,” supervised by King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language (KSGAAL).

The KSGAAL has carried out several editions of the Arabic Language Month Program in several countries, including Indonesia, China, India, France, and Thailand.

Objectives of the Arabic Language Month Program

The Arabic Language Month Program aims to develop Arabic language curricula and improve the performance of its teachers by training them and enhancing their teaching capacities. It also seeks to showcase Saudi Arabia's efforts in serving the Arabic language and its sciences around the world, introduce the KSGAAL and its activities in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, and contribute to achieving progress in Arabic language learning outcomes among learners.

Arabic Language Month Program around the world

Arabic Language Month in Indonesia

The Arabic Language Month Program was launched in the Republic of Indonesia, in Jakarta and Malang Cities, for four weeks from January 7 to February 2, 2024. The program included four training courses for teachers and two discussion sessions, all focusing on the use of active learning strategies in teaching Arabic as a second language, supporting its practices, and developing Arabic language teachers for non-native speakers. In addition, there were four training courses for learners aimed at improving their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

The program was accompanied by a visit to the Saudi embassy and several Indonesian universities hosting Arabic language departments and programs. Furthermore, the KSGAAL, in cooperation with Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta, organized a scientific competition for Arabic language learners.

Arabic Language Month in China

The KSGAAL organized the Arabic Language Month Program in the People’s Republic of China, in Beijing and Shanghai Cities, for approximately four weeks from March 28 to April 26, 2024. The program included four training courses for teachers, a scientific symposium, two discussion sessions, and scientific visits. The academy also, in collaboration with Beijing Language and Culture University, held an accompanying competition targeting Arabic language learners.

Arabic Language Month in India

The KSGAAL organized the Arabic Language Month Program in the Republic of India from July 1-26, 2024, in New Delhi and Kerala Cities. It included a series of scientific activities held in partnership with multiple educational institutions to develop Arabic language curricula, improve the performance of its teachers, strengthen the language’s presence, foster a positive image of it, and highlight the efforts of Saudi Arabia in this field. This aligns with the objectives of the Human Capability Development Program, one of the programs for achieving Saudi Vision 2030.

The program included a scientific symposium, discussion sessions, and scientific visits. It also featured training courses for teachers aimed at developing their linguistic proficiency skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing). All activities focused on employing active learning strategies in teaching Arabic as a second language, strengthening its practices, and enhancing the competencies of Arabic language teachers for non-native speakers.

Additionally, the academy, alongside Jawaharlal Nehru University, held an accompanying scientific competition targeting Arabic language learners. It was divided into three areas: recitation, storytelling, and Arabic calligraphy, complementing the academy’s key publications in this field and broadening learners’ use of them. As part of the program, the academy conducted the Hamzah Exam, a language proficiency test for academic purposes, to benefit five hundred learners in Jawaharlal Nehru University and Kerala University, to enhance the presence of the Arabic language, foster its promotion and use, and honor outstanding learners.

Arabic Language Month in France

From October 7 to November 2, 2024, the KSGAAL launched the Arabic Language Month Program in the French Republic. It encompassed various scientific programs and activities organized in collaboration with several educational institutions to develop Arabic language curricula, improve the performance of its teachers, enhance its presence, foster a positive image of it, and highlight Saudi Arabia’s efforts in this field.

The program featured numerous visits to French universities offering academic programs in Arabic, as well as to associations and scientific centers focusing on teaching and promoting Arabic. Meetings were held with their staff to enrich the Arabic educational experience. The program also included a visit to the Saudi embassy in the French Republic, alongside a series of scientific symposia, discussion sessions, scientific visits, and teacher training courses dedicated to developing their linguistic proficiency skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing).

Arabic Language Month in Thailand

The KSGAAL launched the Arabic Language Month Program in Saudi Arabia of Thailand from November 1-29, 2024, in collaboration with Krirk University in Bangkok and Prince of Songkla University in Hat Yai City (Pattani Province).

The program commenced with a scientific competition in the recitation category, aimed at Arabic language learners from the collaborating universities. It included several activities, such as a scientific symposium, two discussion sessions, and four courses designed to develop the skills of Arabic language teachers for non-native speakers in modern teaching strategies and methodologies. Additionally, four training courses were provided for Arabic language learners to introduce the “Hamzah” Exam and “al-Arabiyyah lil-ʿAlam” channel in both universities. The program also featured the “Hamzah” language proficiency test for academic purposes, aimed at enhancing the presence of Arabic, supporting its promotion and usage, and recognizing top performers. Moreover, it honored the winners of the accompanying scientific recitation competition targeting Arabic language learners.
