The Islamic University Journal of Islamic Legal Sciences is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the Islamic University in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is issued quarterly, with the first issue released in 1968 under the name "Islamic University Journal." The journal aims to enrich academic discourse and provide researchers with an opportunity to publish their scholarly work.
Beginnings of the Islamic University Journal of Islamic Legal Sciences
The Islamic University Journal of Islamic Legal Sciences began with contributions from university professors and students, as well as scholars and writers from outside the university. It featured research papers, documented studies, fatwas, cultural, literary, and medical articles, poetry, university news, events, and activities. The journal also included content from newspapers, magazines, and books, along with summaries of articles in English.
Objectives of the Islamic University Journal of Islamic Legal Sciences
The journal aims to publish specialized research in Sharia sciences, elevate its status to become a recognized source of knowledge within global scientific periodicals, build collaborative relationships with researchers, and provide a platform for publishing their scholarly work. Research in the Islamic University Journal of Islamic Legal Sciences
In 1984, the Islamic University Journal of Islamic Legal Sciences transitioned into a specialized publication for documented scientific research, increasing its academic focus.
With the issuance of the Unified System for University Journals in Saudi Arabia and the Unified Regulations for Scientific Research in Universities, the journal introduced a rigorous peer-review process. Research papers published in the journal are subject to scientific evaluation standards, and no study is published without the approval of expert reviewers.
Publication fields in the Islamic University Journal of Islamic Legal Sciences
In 2017, the University Council issued a decision to categorize the Islamic University Journal of Islamic Legal Sciences according to the academic specializations within the university. The available fields for publication include Qira’at (Quranic recitations), Tafsir and Quranic sciences, Fiqh al-Sunnah, Hadith sciences, Aqidah (Islamic creed), Fiqh and its principles, Islamic economics, legal systems, judiciary and Sharia politics, and Dawah (Islamic preaching). The Islamic University Journal of Islamic Legal Sciences became a continuation of the Islamic University Journal in its numerical sequence, with the first issue under its new name carrying the serial number 184.
