Islamic University

The Islamic University is a Saudi public university specializing in Islamic sciences and the second-oldest public university in the Kingdom after King Saud University. It is based in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah.

Founded on September 5, 1961, the Islamic University is one of the three universities founded in King Saud Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud reign, in the following order: King Saud University, Islamic University, and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. The university is attended by Saudi and non-Saudi students as well as Muslim scholarship students from around the world.

The Islamic University’s campus is situated next to Taibah University, separated by Prince Nayef Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Road. it is located on the western side of al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, approximately ten km from the Prophet's Mosque, and consists mostly of buildings of colleges, institutes, and deanships.

The Islamic University launched its academic programs through colleges specializing in Islamic sciences, such as Shariah, Dawah and Islamic Theology, Holy Quran and Islamic Studies, Prophetic Hadith and Islamic Studies, and Arabic Language. The aforesaid colleges were established in the university at disparate intervals, and subsequently, science, engineering, and judicial studies were established in succession, bringing the number of colleges by 2020 to nine, alongside the Institute of Arabic Language Teaching, the Institute of Research and Consulting Studies, the Secondary Institute of the Islamic University, and the Intermediate Institute of the Islamic University. The Holy Quran and Islamic Studies College, established in 1974, was the first of its kind in the Muslim world.

The university is home to more than sixteen thousand students of both genders and has launched the 'Bab al-Madinah' Initiative, which is a business accelerator and incubator aiming to support and develop startups and entrepreneurs of both genders in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah by providing appropriate services.
