The Saudi Voices Blog is a general, both spoken and transcribed, featuring multiple linguistic levels. It draws from various Arabic language sources within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, whether formal or local, and is in line with modern global standards. The initiative aligns with the targets of the Human Capability Development Program, one of the Saudi Vision 2030 realization programs (VRPs). The blog was launched by the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language (KSAA) on June 10, 2024.
The concept behind the Saudi Voices Blog
The Saudi Voices Blog is based on global standards for structuring and managing linguistic and phonetic data, following frameworks like (CODA) and (TEI). It emphasizes inclusivity across different age groups to reflect the authentic linguistic reality of Saudi dialects. The blog covers dialects from forty geographic locations within the Kingdom, with plans to expand to include original dialects in the future.
Objectives of the Saudi Voices Blog
The Saudi Voices Blog aims to build a phonetic corpus based on modern methodologies in this industry. It seeks to support research and scientific progress in developing Arabic phonetic databases. Additionally, it contributes to collecting audio data representing the Kingdom's diverse dialects by reflecting various social strata and documenting dialects through audio recordings within Saudi society. The initiative leverages modern technologies to disseminate phonetic linguistic data within the linguistic research community, enabling the study of language phenomena. It also provides machine-readable audio material enriched with grammatical, morphological, lexical, and semantic analyses to support artificial intelligence models.
Target audience of the Saudi Voices Blog
The Saudi Voices Blog targets artificial intelligence researchers, creators of spoken language dictionaries, and specialists interested in studying comparative linguistic phenomena across different social age groups and diverse dialects. It also caters to researchers focused on the reality of the Arabic language, as well as Arabic language planning and policy development.
How the Saudi Voices Blog works
The process of the Saudi Voices Blog involves several steps, starting with the relevant recorder capturing the voices of participants from various demographic groups, such as children, youth, and the elderly, both male and female, from different geographic locations. All the recordings are then uploaded to the 'Falak' platform for linguistic blogs. The blog contains several topics, including storytelling, discussions about places and food, traditions and customs, holidays, quotes, and daily situations. Once the blog is fully developed, it will be available to researchers and interested parties for use in building applications and conducting studies and research.
