The Composite Aerostructure Factory Project is a project within the aerospace and aviation products industry in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Its purpose is to manufacture aircraft parts using advanced carbon fiber composite materials.
The project is the first of its kind in the Middle East and utilizes cutting-edge technologies to automate manufacturing processes, aligning with the standards of international companies in the aviation industry.
On December 4, 2021, Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI), owned by the Public Investment Fund, signed an agreement with Saudi Arabian Industrial Investments Company (Dussur) and the French 'Figeac-Aero' group to establish SAMI FIGEAC AERO Manufacturing LLC', and construct the largest aerostructure factory in the Middle East region, with the Kingdom holding the majority of its shares.
Objectives of the Composite Aerostructure Factory Project
The Composite Aerostructure Factory Project aims to realize one of the objectives outlined in Saudi Vision 2030, which is to localize 50 percent of military industries by 2030. It also seeks to enhance the Kingdom’s capabilities in the local military industry, train Saudi engineers and technicians for project involvement, establish a research and development center for products, and localize military and civil aviation industries.
The factory's primary products focus on lightweight alloys, 'aluminum', and hard metal, 'titanium', for aircraft parts. The project aims to establish a set of investments financed by local financial institutions, including the launch of a new production unit at the Aircraft Accessories and Components Company Limited (AACC) site in Jeddah.
The first phase of the Composite Aerostructure Factory Project
The first phase of the project involves expanding the facility, which is scheduled to be completed in 2024, with investments of approximately SAR187.5 million. This investment encompasses components, infrastructure, training programs, and certificates, aiming to generate revenues of around SAR37.5 million, adding fourteen modern manufacturing units to SAMI FIGEAC AERO Manufacturing LLC', and creating specialized job opportunities in the technology and engineering sectors.
Sub-projects in the Composite Aerostructure Factory Project
The Composite Aerostructure Factory Project supports various sub-projects, such as manufacturing propellers for wind power plants, producing special pipes for petrochemicals, and manufacturing components for automobiles and ships.
