Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was appointed Acting Governor of Riyadh Province on March 16, 1954, at the age of nineteen, following the death of his father, the Founding King, and the accession of his elder brother, King Saud Bin Abdulaziz, to the reins of power in the country.

King Salman spent a year as Acting Governor of Riyadh before a Royal Order was issued on April 18, 1955, appointing him as Governor of Riyadh Province with the rank of minister. He remained in the position until December 25, 1960. A subsequent Royal Order was issued on February 5, 1963, reappointing him as Governor of Riyadh Province.
