In 2021, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) announced the establishment of the first Saudi women's national team and a women's league. During the same year, the Saudi women's national team entered the FIFA ranking for the first time. The inaugural training camp for the women's national team was held under the supervision of German head coach Monika Staab. The team played two matches against the Maldives and Seychelles. In 2024, the Saudi women's national football team was ranked 174th by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).
The technical and administrative staff for the first Saudi women's national football team
The coaching team led by German head coach Monika Staab included assistant coaches Dana Rajab and Sandra Kallen (Switzerland), Martin Pacholik (Slovakia) as an additional assistant coach, and Kathrin Langert (Germany) as the goalkeeping coach. The team also featured Dana Newberry (Australia) as a video analyst. The administrative staff consisted of Aaliah al-Rasheed as the supervisor of national teams, Birein Sadagah as the team manager, and team administrators Dalia al-Obeikan and Intisar al-Qahtani, alongside team coordinators Suleiman Sharahili and Fahd al-Turki.
The journey of preparing the first Saudi women's national football team
The team's initial phase of preparations began in Jeddah City, where training sessions were held at the King Abdullah Sports City. The second phase was held in Riyadh City before two friendly matches were organized in the Maldives against the Seychelles and the Maldives national teams.
Since October 2021, the coaching staff conducted talent trials for the national team across multiple provinces. German head coach Monika Staab and her team evaluated the performance of over seven hundred players in competitions like the Provincial League. After evaluating players in the Provincial League, which was held in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam, with sixteen teams and 433 female players across seventy-two matches, the coaching staff evaluated the performance of players in the Saudi Championship, held in early January 2022, with the participation of the top eight teams across the Kingdom.
The national team began its first phase with a fifteen-day preparatory camp in the Austrian Saalfden City before traveling to a seventeen-day camp in Abha. During the second phase of their preparation program, the team played two friendly matches against Bhutan's national team.

After the tryouts, twenty-five female players were selected to form the final roster of the senior Saudi women's national football team. These players were Lama al-Anzi, Sara Khalid, Mona Abdulrahman (goalkeeper), Atheer Khalid, Bayan Sadagah, Hossa al-Saadallah, Leen Mohammed, Lana Abdulrazak, Ohood al-Amari, Talah al-Ghamdi, Meshael al-Harbi (defense), Asrar al-Shaibani, Daliah Abu Laban, Fahda al-Saad, Jouri Tareq, Layan Jouhari, Mariam al-Tamimi, Farah Jafri, Noura al-Ibrahim, Raghad Mukhayzin, Sara Hamad, Seba Tawfiq (midfield), al-Bandari Mobarak, al-Bandari Mohammed, Tahani al-Zahrani (forward).
