Al-Jubayl Industrial City is an industrial city encompassing industrial complexes specializing in petrochemicals and primary industries. It is located within al-Jubayl Governorate, in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and is managed and overseen by the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu.

Al-Jubayl Industrial City establishment

Al-Jubayl Industrial City was established in 1975 by a Royal Decree that stipulated the establishment of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, which oversaw the construction of al-Jubayl Industrial City. King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the commission while he was Crown Prince. In 2004, King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud laid the founding stone for al-Jubayl Second Industrial City.

Al-Jubayl Industrial City is distinguished by its proximity to oil and gas sources, in addition to its location on the Arabian Gulf coast. It is also characterized by essential industrial services, infrastructure, and facilities, such as gas and feedstock networks, road and rail networks, industrial and commercial ports, as well as water treatment networks. In addition to a range of social services, including residential units, schools, and hospitals.

Al-Jubayl Industrial City constituents

Al-Jubayl Industrial City houses several industrial complexes dedicated to petrochemicals and primary and secondary industries, primarily owned by Saudi Basic Industries Corporation 'SABIC.' In fact, thirteen of SABIC's sixteen production plants in the Kingdom are located in al-Jubayl Industrial City, with the remaining one being in Dammam. Moreover, al-Jubayl Industrial City has witnessed the launch of numerous primary, secondary, support, and light industries. The city also boasts the King Fahd Industrial Port.

Expantion of al-Jubayl Industrial City

The Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu has allocated SAR67.5 billion to double the industrial city's area by 2030. The commission plans to expand residential areas in the city by building over fifty thousand new housing units and opening a university in 2026. Additionally, the commission has commenced work on al-Jubayl Industrial City Economic Center Project, a key initiative to develop domestic industries and logistics services.

Investment volume in al-Jubayl Industrial City

In 2022, the total value of industrial investments in al-Jubayl Industrial City reached approximately SAR525 billion. A significant portion of these investments is concentrated in the manufacturing sector, encompassing industries such as automotive, home appliances, industrial equipment and machinery, pharmaceuticals, and medical equipment, finished plastic and rubber products, specialized food products, renewable energy products, and specialty chemicals. Among the prominent companies operating in al-Jubayl Industrial City, in addition to SABIC, are Saudi Aramco Total Refining and Petrochemical Company 'SATORP,' Advanced Petrochemical Company, and Jubail United Petrochemical Company.

Al-Jubayl Industrial City and the Learning City Award

In 2021, al-Jubayl Industrial City won the 2021 UNESCO Learning City Award, which is presented to the best cities that have demonstrated significant progress in promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. Al-Jubayl Industrial City had joined the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities in 2020.

Tourism in al-Jubayl Industrial City

Despite its industrial nature, al-Jubayl Industrial City holds a prominent position on the Kingdom's tourism map. It boasts beaches equipped with recreational facilities and two marinas (al-Fanateer and Darin) that attract tourists for sea excursions. Additionally, al-Jubayl is home to several islands including Jana, al-Jurayd, Kiran, and al-Huwaylat, offering opportunities for swimming, fishing, and exploring fish breeding areas.

Among the tourist attractions in al-Jubayl Industrial City are the waterfront in the city center, al-Fanateer Beach, the Darin Peninsula, the Youth Sea Park in al-Bahr neighborhood, al-Nakheel Beach, boat marinas, the Aquarium Museum in Mardumah Gulf, and boat marinas in ad-Dana Beach and al-Fanateer Beach.
