The Saudi Railway Polytechnic 'SRP' is a training entity competent with providing support to the railway industry in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, empowering it to rely on national competencies, creating job opportunities for Saudi youth in various regions, and promoting technology localization. SRP was established in 2012 and commenced its training programs in 2014.
Establishment of SRP
SRP was established based on a strategic partnership between the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) and the Saudi Arabia Railways 'SAR' to transfer global technologies to various industries and attract a world-class operator experienced in specialized railway industry training, who will be responsible for developing training plans and curricula and will operate the institute through a subsidiary training entity.
Study at SRP
Studying at SRP takes two and a half years, and all its programs are provided in English. The training period is divided into three phases, starting with a preliminary year, where trainees study general preparation subjects and the English language. The second year focuses on teaching trainees practical and theoretical aspects of their majors.
Trainees are then placed in a real-world work environment within a 'SAR' subsidiary site relevant to their specialization for practical application, complementing their academic knowledge with field experience and assessing their job performance. Successful applicants to study at SRP receive several benefits, including immediate employment, a monthly salary, social insurance, medical insurance, and paid annual leave.
Training programs at SRP
The institute provides several training programs, specialized diploma programs in the railway industry, and one-year training programs. These programs are divided into three semesters, each spanning fourteen weeks. Programs include the Locomotive and Railway Operation Program, upon completion graduates receive a 'Higher Diploma' in this specialization, equivalent to a Level Two certificate from the British Institution.
Furthermore, the programs also include the Station Operation and Management Program, which focuses on providing passenger and freight services at stations and on trains; the Communications and Control Program which equips graduates to maintain signaling and communication systems. The higher diploma awarded for these programs is equivalent to a Level Three certificate from the British Institution. Moreover, the institute offers the Locomotive and Carriage Maintenance Program, with a higher diploma equivalent to a Level Three certificate from the British Institution.
