Life of Imam Abdullah Bin Faisal Bin Turki
Imam Abdullah Bin Faisal was his father's right-hand man throughout his reign, and he also led the Saudi army in several battles. He was with his father following the attack on the Saudi state and was taken to Egypt by the forces of Mohammed Ali in 1838. He returned with his father when they managed to leave Egypt in 1843, at which point Imam Faisal resumed his rule. Imam Abdullah Bin Faisal earned his father's trust and was appointed as the governor of Riyadh. He was often assigned to carry out important missions, which he completed proficiently. His father entrusted him with rulership after him, and he assumed power in 1865.
The ascension of Imam Abdullah Bin Faisal Bin Turki to rule
Imam Abdullah Bin Faisal Bin Turki assumed power in 1865 and built al-Masmak Palace to serve as his and his family's residence and seat of government. Initially called al-Masmak Palace (with the Arabic letter Seen, meaning strong and thick building) because of its fortified floors and sidewalls, the people later replaced the letter Seen with the Arabic letter Sad. Located in ad-Duhairah neighborhood of Riyadh City, the palace still stands today, serving as a historic landmark that commemorates the entrance of King Abdulaziz, the founder of the Kingdom, into Riyadh in 1902.
