The Saudi Hiking Trails Association (DARB) is a non-profit civil society organization practicing economic activities. It is licensed by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development under license number (2006) and supervised by the Ministry of Tourism. DARB aims to discover and develop hiking and mountain climbing trails across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with the goal of enhancing local tourism, improving the quality of life for community members, and boosting the economic, health, environmental, and social benefits of walking in nature.
Objectives of Saudi Hiking Trails Association
DARB aims, in collaboration with relevant governmental and private entities, to serve community members, tourists, and hiking enthusiasts by facilitating access to hiking and mountain climbing trails to improve health-related quality of life, promoting a culture of hiking to explore tourist sites within the Kingdom, and innovating technological means to help hikers know available trails, their features, and services.
Additionally, DARB aims to preserve the natural wildlife, desert, mountain, agricultural, heritage, and marine environments through the development of integrated hiking trails to attract tourists and visitors from around the world. This is achieved with the contribution of members and volunteers from the local community, using available resources, and establishing effective collaborative partnerships.
Achievements of Saudi Hiking Trails Association
DARB has developed Darb al-Manjur Path in Duruma Governorate, in Riyadh. This trail, located on the edge of Tuwaiq Mountain, has a history dating back thousands of years. It offers visitors the opportunity to walk in a historic area that was once a route for traders' and individuals' caravans traveling between cities and villages.
DARB has also developed Musaigrah Trail in al-Quway'iyyah Governorate, Riyadh. This trail features 356 rock carvings dating back eight thousand years on the facade of Musaigrah Plateau. Additionally, DARB developed Jalajil Historical Trail in Riyadh Province. This trail passes through the old town of Jalajil, its ancient houses, farms, and archaeological neighborhoods.
