It was opened during the reign of King Khalid Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in 1980, and it is overseen by the Ministry of Sport.

The indoor sport hall includes games such as handball, basketball, and volleyball, as well as judo, karate, and others. Meanwhile, the indoor swimming pool features an Olympic-sized pool.
