The Saudi Golf Federation is one of the sports federations in Saudi Arabia. It is the governing body for golf in the Kingdom. It aims to increase interest in the sport and commits to providing the necessary infrastructure and regulations to ensure the growth and prosperity of the golf sport.
The Saudi Golf Federation was established in 1999 and was formerly known as the Saudi Golf Committee. It then became a sports federation operating under the Ministry of Sport. It is based in Riyadh.
The Saudi Golf Federation is a sports authority with an independent legal personality. Its budget consists of state-provided support funds, revenues from local and international championships, donations and grants, and annual membership fees.
The Saudi Golf Federation courses
The Saudi Golf Federation organizes its tournaments on several courses. Saudi Arabia possesses fourteen golf courses: six professional grass courses, five sand courses of eighteen holes, and three courses of nine holes. The Royal Greens Golf and Country Club, which received its final touches in 2016, is the most renowned grass course in the Kingdom. It has hosted several events, including the European Golf Tour and the Ladies European Golf Tour, including the Aramco International Women's Championship.
Other golf courses are located in Riyadh, which has four grass courses. The city is poised to become a hub for the golf movement in the coming years. The courses of Riyadh Golf Club, Dirab Golf Club, and Arizona Golf Club (nine holes), along with the course at Nofa Resort, offer golf enthusiasts a fresh challenge through their diverse terrains.
Advancing Golf in Saudi Arabia
To advance golf in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Golf Federation signed an MoU in September 2020 with Tadrees Holding, a company in the Saudi education sector. Under this agreement, the two parties collaborated to develop and launch a joint program to educate and train in golf under the name "Get into Golf" in Tadrees schools throughout the kingdom.
To promote golf and train students in the sport, the Saudi Golf Company, the main partner of the Saudi Golf Federation, launched its dedicated program to boost interest and education in golf. The company aspires to achieve its goal of providing 3,700 job opportunities in the golf sector by 2030 and to cultivate a generation comprised of approximately thirteen to twenty-four thousand new golf players by the same year.
National Golf Sustainability Strategy
Reaffirming the kingdom's capabilities in advancing golf, the Saudi Golf Federation announced in November 2020 the launch of a comprehensive national strategy aimed at achieving the sustainability of golf by fostering an innovative and ambitious culture that prioritizes environmental protection and economic development alongside activating its social role.
The strategy represented a new event in the history of sports across the Kingdom, as it aims to introduce the Kingdom as a pioneer in creating one of the most sustainable and economically and socially effective sports environments.
