List of Saudi Kings Who Assumed the Title of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques
The adoption of the title of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques officially began in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the reign of King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. He chose it instead of the usual title associated with the kings' names, 'His Majesty', as an honor and pride in serving the Two Holy Mosques. He was the first to officially adopt this title in Saudi rule throughout its three phases:
- King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on October 27, 1986, during a speech he delivered at the inauguration ceremony of al-Madinah al-Munawwarah Television.
- King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was pledged allegiance to on August 1, 2005, and adopted the same title.
- King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud assumed the throne after the passing of his brother on January 23, 2015, and retained the title of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
