Kingdom eCup is a virtual Saudi football competition launched by the Saudi Esports Federation in collaboration with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation on April 12, 2021, to create a stimulating environment to develop esports athletes, enable them to compete in global tournaments, build and enhance esports communities, connect Saudi Arabia with the world by establishing an electronic system, and align with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 in this sector.
In 2021, the Saudi Esports Federation hosted the first edition of Kingdom eCup, which lasted five days and was won by al-Qadisiyah Club. The tournament aimed to enhance the electronic skills of players to represent the Saudi electronic national team in international competitions.
Participants in Kingdom eCup
Ninety players from forty-five Saudi clubs participated in Kingdom eCup tournament, competing in scheduled rounds using a knockout tournament. Participation in the tournament was limited to teams registered in the Club Support Strategy, e.g., clubs from the Pro League, First Division, Second Division, and Third Division.
The qualifiers for the first edition of the tournament took place between April 12 and 16, 2021. The finals, featuring twelve clubs, were played on April 15 and 16.
System of Kingdom eCup Tournament
The system of the Kingdom eCup tournament includes designating a starting player with the option to add a substitute player. The gameplay follows a one-on-one player format, and the qualifiers are played in the ultimate team mode, while the matches are conducted using a knockout system.
In addition to the Kingdom eCup, the Saudi Esports Federation, founded in 2017, hosts several national and international tournaments and events. These include the Saudi Esports League, Voices of Saudi Esports, Saudi Universities eLeague, Saudi eLeague Champions Cup, Gamers Without Borders, SPL Esports, and Esports Federation Cup.
