The Saudi Karate Federation is one of the sports federations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is directly responsible for karate sport and the management of its local and international competitions. It operates from its headquarters in the capital, Riyadh.
Establishment of the Saudi Karate Federation
The Saudi Karate Federation was established in 1975, encompassing the sport of judo. In 1978, taekwondo was integrated into the federation, and the designation was changed to Saudi Karate, Taekwondo, and Judo Federation. In 2001, sports federations were restructured, and karate was separated to form an independent federation called the Saudi Karate Federation.
Functions of the Saudi Karate Federation
The Saudi Karate Federation carries out several tasks, most notably introducing karate and encouraging its practice, organizing competitions and championships, preparing teams and national teams to participate in regional and international tournaments, and supporting and training players and clubs to reach international competitions.
The federation organizes several championships, most notably the Minister of Sport Cup for Clubs and the Kata Championship for Juniors and the Youth. The Karate Federation includes 3,882 registered male and female players of different age groups, in addition to 136 clubs. It is a member of the Arab Karate Federation, the Asian Karate Federation, and the World Karate Federation (WKF).
Saudi Karate Federation regulatory arrangements
The Saudi Karate Federation is a sports entity with independent legal personality. Its budget consists of support funds provided by the state and sponsorships.
