Ali Bin Hassan Bin Ibrahim Al-Shaer (1931 - May 15, 2019) was a Saudi leader, advisor, and former Minister of Media. He contributed to external and internal media efforts and supported scholarships in media-related fields. He received several medals from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Jordan, Egypt, and Iraq.

Academic background

He was born in Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah and obtained a bachelor's degree in arts from the Department of History at King Saud University. In 1949, he earned a bachelor’s degree in military sciences from the Military Academy.

Positions and roles

He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1976 and was appointed ambassador to Lebanon. In 1984, he became Minister of Media and remained in that position until he was appointed advisor at the Royal Court in 1996.

Al-Shaer served in the military attaché in Pakistan and Lebanon. He was appointed as a member of the Arab Committee for the Lebanon events, and King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud sent him as an envoy to several countries.

He founded the Military School in Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah and managed it, and later served as director of the War College. 

Intellectual contributions

Ali Al-Shaer founded Defense Magazine and served as its editor-in-chief. He also headed the Saudi Arabian Army Magazine in 1962 and published the first issue of the War College Magazine while serving as director of the War College. 

Honors received

He was awarded the Order of King Abdulaziz (Second Class) in 1973, the Order of King Abdulaziz (Excellent Class) in 1977, and the King Abdulaziz Sash (Second Class) in 1984. He also received several medals from other countries, including Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq.
