Thameen Program
Thameen Program is an awareness initiative launched by the Capital Market Authority in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on October 18, 2018. It aims to promote financial and investment literacy and raise public awareness as part of the objectives of the Financial Sector Development Program, one of the programs supporting Saudi Vision 2030.
Thameen Program operates through communication channels that connect investors with specialists in the capital market sector. It provides visual content featuring dialogue sessions, in addition to publishing educational booklets on investment on the program’s official website.
Objectives of Thameen Program
The program aims to raise the level of financial and investment literacy, enhance awareness of the Capital Market Law and its implementing regulations, educate investors on the fundamentals of investing and risk avoidance, and boost confidence and skill levels. It also seeks to increase individuals’ ability to benefit from investment opportunities in companies, thereby contributing to the support of the national economy.
Pillars of Thameen Program
The program operates across five pillars.The first is saving, which features awareness videos on financial saving, such as “Plan Right,” “Saving and Financial Planning,” and “The Journey from Saving to Investing.” The second area is investment fundamentals, which aims to introduce the essential concepts every investor should know, such as investment products, their types, and the definition of investments, and how to get started. In addition to introducing the basic concepts of financial markets through videos and booklets published on the program’s official website.
The third pillar is "Invest Yourself," which aims to introduce how to build an investment portfolio, invest in debt markets, highlight the importance of reviewing companies’ financial statements, explain investment during the youth and retirement stages, and define investment goals. It also includes the publication of booklets that support individual self-learning.
The fourth pillar, "Invest with Others," introduces investors to exchange-traded funds, endowment funds, and the types and characteristics of business licenses. The fifth pillar, "How to Protect Yourself," presents awareness videos that help in avoiding risks in the capital market. These include emphasizing the importance of reviewing the market before making any investment, how to claim investor rights, introducing proper investment methods, as well as explaining the complaint and reporting mechanisms of the Capital Market Authority, protecting personal information, and verifying the reliability of the investment entity.
