Sustainability in Design Conference
Sustainability in Design Conference, is the first edition of the conference organized by the Architecture and Design Commission, affiliated with the Ministry of Culture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in Riyadh, from November 17 - 18,2024, to promote sustainability through local and global initiatives, with the participation of about thirty specialists and experts in the fields of architecture and design.
Objectives of the Sustainability in Design Conference
The Sustainability in Design Conference aims to achieve leadership in achieving sustainability in the built and creative environment at the regional level, highlighting the role of design as a central tool in achieving sustainability and raising awareness of its concepts, linking stakeholders in the architecture and design ecosystem to facilitate collaboration between sectors in the field of sustainability, raising awareness about the role of design in achieving the sustainability agenda, embedding the principles of sustainable design in educational institutions, and focusing on the role of design in promoting the sustainability agenda at both local and international levels.
Themes of the Sustainability in Design Conference
The Sustainability in Design Conference focused on several axes to achieve a balance between innovation and sustainable development to face present and future environmental challenges, including: sustainable practice in applying principles to reduce environmental impact and support material efficiency in design, and environmental education represented by raising awareness of sustainability concepts among future generations, to empower them to make responsible environmental decisions.
Other axes include research and development to explore innovative techniques for providing solutions to environmental challenges, and sustainable behavior by adopting a lifestyle that contributes to preserving natural resources and a sustainable environment, and developing urban designs that support human well-being and achieve environmental balance.
Activities of the Sustainability in Design Conference
The Sustainability in Design Conference included several activities, such as the "Sustainability Lab" as an interactive platform showcasing recent practices and research in the field of sustainability, in addition to an accompanying exhibition focused on displaying innovative projects and design solutions that contribute to supporting a sustainable environment, such as sustainable construction technologies, the use of innovative environmental materials, and designing smart cities that conserve resources, as well as integrating renewable energy technologies and improving thermal insulation.
