ROSHN Waterfront in Jeddah is a recreational tourist area located on the corniche of Jeddah City overlooking the Red Sea, in the western part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The waterfront adopts the seagull, which is widespread along Jeddah’s shores, as its symbol. It receives around fifty-five million visitors annually.

ROSHN Waterfront in Jeddah extends from Al-Nawras Roundabout in the northern part of the city to Jaber Bin Al-Harith Street, with a length of 4,500 m. Its total area is approximately 730,000 m², and it consists of seven recreational zones designated for families and children. It has a capacity to accommodate 120,000 people at once and includes green spaces covering more than 275,000 m², in addition to swimming beaches that can accommodate around ten thousand people. The waterfront is equipped with wave breakers and five watchtowers.

Development of ROSHN Waterfront in Jeddah

Jeddah Governorate Municipality is developing the ROSHN Waterfront, with work on its fourth and fifth phases having begun in 2017, at a total estimated cost of SAR800 million. The waterfront includes features introduced for the first time in Jeddah, such as the suspended walkway, and it is equipped with the necessary services to receive visitors.

Facilities of ROSHN Waterfront in Jeddah

ROSHN Waterfront in Jeddah includes a suspended pedestrian bridge, eight educational play areas for children, parking spaces for three thousand cars, 120 restrooms, a supervision and monitoring building connected to 125 surveillance cameras, and a sound system that covers the entire waterfront.

Recreational plazas at ROSHN Waterfront in Jeddah

The seafront promenade and bicycle path extend along the ROSHN Waterfront in Jeddah, interspersed with sandy beaches, a fishing pier, two marinas for leisure boats, and seven recreational plazas, which are:

  • Al-Nawras: One of the main plazas at ROSHN Waterfront in Jeddah and the largest in terms of area. It includes the seagull sculpture, a pedestrian bridge, fountains, and a chess game area.
  • Al-Asdaf: Features shell-inspired designs, fountains, and an illuminated sculpture of the word "Jeddah" that greets visitors upon entering the plaza.
  • Al-Tawhid: Centered around a large sculpture of the Islamic declaration of faith “There is no god but Allah; Mohammed is the Messenger of Allah.” It includes a variety of children’s play equipment, Al-Tawhid Mosque, and fountains.
  • Al-Rimal: This plaza features a sandy swimming beach, from which it takes its name, and also includes play areas and fountains.
  • Al-Lu’lu’: The plaza is named after its artistic installations inspired by pearls. It features an open-air museum of art sculptures, along with a marina, fountains, and children’s play areas.
  • Al-Sayyad: This plaza features a sea pier known as “Al-Saqala,” which serves as one of the gathering points for fishermen along the Jeddah Corniche. It also includes an open-air fitness club, swimming beaches, and children’s play areas.
  • Al-Khaleej: The plaza is named after the Arabian Gulf due to its resemblance in form. It features an interactive fountain along with beach play areas.

ROSHN Waterfront Promenade in Jeddah

The ROSHN Waterfront Promenade in Jeddah is located in the Al-Shati' neighborhood along Jeddah Corniche Road. It is one of twenty-three promenades in the city, measuring 4,500 m in length and ten m in width. It includes various facilities and services such as seating benches, a children’s play area, car parking, parking for people with disabilities, a bicycle path, a path for the visually impaired, and fitness equipment.

Color corniche at ROSHN Waterfront in Jeddah

In 2021, ROSHN Waterfront in Jeddah witnessed the launch of the "Color Corniche" initiative, which extended along the central island of the corniche for a length of 4,500 m. It was implemented in eight phases and included the painting of architectural and geometric designs, in collaboration with architects, artists, and urban designers.

Awards of ROSHN Waterfront in Jeddah

The ROSHN Waterfront project in Jeddah received the Jeddah Innovation Award in 2017 in the field of governmental innovation, and the Makkah Excellence Award for the same year in the field of environmental excellence.
