Qassim Literary Club
Qassim Literary Club is one of the cultural and literary clubs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was established in 1980 and is headquartered in Buraydah City, Qassim Province. The idea for its establishment emerged after the province's writers, intellectuals, and poets gathered and expressed their need to form a club to create a cultural and literary movement in the province. The club is overseen by the Ministry of Culture.
Events of Qassim Literary Club
Qassim Literary Club participates in book fairs, contributes to book publishing, and organizes lectures, seminars, poetry evenings, short story nights, training courses, festivals, and periodic meetings focused on literary affairs. It has also established a literary library, cultivated cultural settings, hosted both local and international thinkers and writers, organized several competitions, and contributed to invigorating the cultural movement in the province.
Qassim Literary Club's activities also include organizing specialized conferences. It has held themed cultural seasons featuring conferences on subjects such as the novel as the most dominant literary form, two decades of Saudi creativity, and the poets Imru' Al-Qais and Antarah Bin Shaddad. Each year, a conference is held on a selected literary topic, specialists are brought in to address it, and the discussions are later published in a special file.
Activities of Qassim Literary Club
Qassim Literary Club includes several groups formed to develop and upgrade the club's cultural activities, including the Narrative Group to support narrative creativity, the Creativity Group to foster talented individuals, and the Poetry Group to follow up innovative developments in form and content.
Qassim Literary Club also has several committees responsible for media coverage, communication with intellectuals and writers across the Arab world, and contributions to organizing cultural and folk festivals. Additionally, it oversees various events, the library, and books.
The club has launched several initiatives, including the Women's Excellence Award, which aims to honor Saudi female researchers and creators for their contributions to the cultural and social landscape in Saudi Arabia. The award includes four categories: women's issues, creative women, translation, and honoring a Saudi woman who has made a notable contribution to knowledge and society at the national and global levels. The total value of the award exceeds SAR300,000, with SAR50,000 granted to the winner in each of the four categories.
