Future Aviation Forum 2022
The Future Aviation Forum 2022 is a forum organized by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to discuss investment opportunities in the aviation sector and outline the vision for the future of global aviation across three main themes: passenger experience, business recovery, and sustainability. It was inaugurated on May 9, 2022, and held at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center in Riyadh City. The three-day forum featured global participation from heads of civil aviation authorities, ministers of transport, and international and regional entities concerned with the sector.
Agreements of the Future Aviation Forum 2022
The Future Aviation Forum enabled participation in Saudi Arabia’s aviation sector and unified global efforts to improve the air transport industry by keeping pace with global developments. It encouraged the signing of international deals involving new opportunities and rapid enhancements in the sector, contributing to positioning it as a global aviation hub.
The forum witnessed the signing of around fifty agreements valued at approximately SAR10 billion. These included bilateral air services agreements, cooperation agreements related to sustainability, airport operations, and human capital development, in addition to several partnerships in the technology sector.
Objectives of the Future Aviation Forum 2022
The forum sought to promote action-oriented thinking to enhance the passenger experience and support the aviation sector’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. This will be driven by collaboration and the adoption of innovative approaches. It also aims to unite industry leaders from around the globe to modernize the sector, strengthen its resilience, and explore avenues for advancing the international aviation policy framework to foster global cooperation.
Sessions of the Future Aviation Forum 2022
The Future Aviation Forum featured forty sessions held over the course of the event, discussing investment opportunities and the contribution of civil aviation to economic growth. It also addressed enhancing Saudi Arabia’s position as a global logistics hub, with the participation of more than 120 speakers.
Investment opportunities at the Future Aviation Forum 2022
The Future Aviation Forum aimed to attract investments amounting to approximately SAR375 billion by 2030. This includes the establishment of a major airport in the capital, Riyadh, and eight additional airports across various regions of Saudi Arabia, four of which are in partnership with the private sector. The forum also announced the launch of a new national airline to strengthen air transport, in line with the strategic vision of the General Authority of Civil Aviation to double passenger capacity to around 330 million travelers reaching approximately 250 global destinations.
Saudi Arabia was awarded the “Arab Civil Aviation Award 2022” after hosting the Future Aviation Forum, in recognition of its efforts in addressing the most pressing challenges facing the global aviation sector. It was decided that Saudi Arabia would continue to hold the forum every two years to address the sector’s challenges and support its development.
